PROJECT SUMMARY:

The primary project strategy is to provide technical assistance (TA) to the state and district health systems to improve access to quality FP services. Since IUD services has been identified as a major gap in the FP services available in the public health system in India, the project will focus on increasing access to high quality IUD services including post-partum IUD, post abortion IUD and interval IUD services. The project will be implemented for 3 years in Rajasthan and Gujarat ie till March 2020. It is designed to improve IUD service delivery by training and coaching providers in selected  facilities of these 2 states. Interventions to strengthen service delivery and create enabling environment by developing capacity of Districts Health managers and District Data Managers and facility administrators; during this time.

JOB SUMMARY: 

The Senior Clinical Trainer will travel to project – selected facilities and provide structured on-the-job / onsite training of IUD to service providers (doctors, nurses and ANMs). They will also provide training follow-up and individualized support to the providers. Each Senior Clinical Trainer will be responsible for approximately 20-28 new facilities (phase II facilities) and the facilities of phase I of that assigned territory.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepare monthly plans in consultation with Project Officers and share it at the end of the month with Clinical Training Specialist and Clinical Quality Manager.

Conduct facility assessment of all new facilities of their assigned territory with project officer or Clinical trainer nurse

Conduct structured on-the-job competency based clinical training on PAIUD, PPIUD and IUD service provision and infection prevention for providers (doctors, nurses and ANMs).

Conduct competency based TOTs of district trainers on PAIUD, PPIUD & IUD service provision and infection prevention Collect feedback from the participants at the end of each training/follow-up session and share it with the Clinical Training Specialist and the State Project Manager for their analysis.

Build rapport with facility teams (including the Medical Officer In-charge of Centers) and execute participatory, self-assessment exercises with the teams to analyze the situation and identify solutions in various aspects of IUD, PPIUD and PAIUD service delivery.

Facilitate team building and systems improvement and build a positive and enabling environment at the facilities.

Undertake activities to facilitate the establishment of quality services according to the performance standards, at the supported facilities. 

Discuss and reinforce National guidelines and standards of care at the facilities.

Perform case observations and ask staff to demonstrate certain clinical skills to understand the competency needs.

Collect data to track progress of quality of services at facilities and provide necessary support for improving the quality.

Facilitate reflection, demonstrate and provide feedback with respect to provider – patient interaction and environment in the facility through conducting Clinical Monitoring & Coaching visits.

Identify the gaps and prepare the action plan with the involvement of facility in-charge.

Keep up to date on technical approaches and programmatic priorities through self-study.

Timely submission of soft copy of all the reports after conducting training or any activity to Clinical Training specialist.

Participate in review meetings organized by EH team to share experiences and feedback with Project Officers to mobilize support from district officials in relation to supply, staffing, infrastructure, etc.

Review and interpret operational and clinical information from a variety of sources including facility data, patient records, ASHA reports and other sources as required for making decisions about whether clinical and QA guidelines are being followed and to advocate with facility in-charge/ civil surgeon to ensure the action plan is implemented at facility.

Spend about 75% of his /her time at Government facilities for conducting project activities.

Any other task assigned by the supervisor from time to time.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Minimum qualification MBBS, house job in Obs and Gynae, preferably Post-Graduation in Obst.& Gynae, or is MTP trained (as per MTP act),    

At least three years or more years of experience of working on family planning, reproductive health,  and quality assurance of health facilities is preferable Experience in facilitating training is desirable

Experience in facilitating training is desirable

Experience of working with international NGOs, NGOs, district administration, public health facilities will be an advantage

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Good knowledge of reproductive health; family planning; IUD - advantages, prevalent myths and misconceptions in community and how to overcome them

Good knowledge on quality improvement and quality assurance of health services

Strong communication, facilitation, liaison, and motivation skills

 

Good training skills

Ability to collect data; expertise in compilation; analysis of data and writing reports

Computer skills - MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Internet Explorer

Willingness to travel to peripheral Government health facilities up to 75% of time

Capacity to work confidently with computerised datasets.

 

Organisational and planning skills:

Good organisational skills with the ability to plan and execute a number of overlapping activities

Good time management and prioritisation skills with the ability to plan ahead to meet tight deadlines without compromising standards.

Positive attitude and flexible approach to working; able to re-organise tasks as appropriate in response to changing demands.

Able to use own initiative whilst reporting to line manager on the progress of given tasks and activities.

Communication and Interpersonal skills:

Able to communicate clearly and professionally with a wide range of people informal and formal presentation skills.

Able to adhere to set guidelines and procedures.
